Privacy Policy

Overview

NotDNA is a market intelligence service for live auction sellers on Whatnot. It turns publicly available marketplace activity — the same information any buyer or viewer can already see — into category trends, price benchmarks, seller leaderboards, and sourcing signals.

This privacy policy explains what data NotDNA collects, how we use it, who we share it with, how long we keep it, and what rights you have. It applies to the NotDNA application at notdna.com.

Who this policy applies to

This policy applies to account holders: people who sign up for NotDNA to view market intelligence. NotDNA's data comes from activity that is publicly visible on Whatnot to any buyer, bidder, or viewer — such as item listings, bid activity, and closing prices. We do not log in to, or access private, non-public data from, any seller or buyer account, and we do not require the sellers or buyers reflected in our data to be NotDNA customers.

Data we collect from account holders

When you create an account or use NotDNA, we collect:

  • Name and email address, for account identification and to send you reports or alerts
  • Authentication identifiers (your login session)
  • Your plan, subscription status, and billing identifiers from our payment processor
  • Categories, items, or sellers you follow or search, so we can personalize alerts and saved views
  • Usage and activity logs (searches run, alerts configured, timestamps) so we can operate the service and support you

Data we capture from public Whatnot activity

NotDNA continuously observes Whatnot activity that the platform itself displays publicly to any viewer, including:

  • Item listings, categories, and descriptions
  • Bid activity and final closing prices
  • Timing and volume of sales across categories and sellers

Higher-tier plans also surface buyer-level detail — such as a seller's repeat buyers and top spenders — that is likewise built from publicly observable purchase activity on that seller's own listings, not from private account data.

We use this activity to generate trends, benchmarks, leaderboards, and suggested pricing. We only capture what is publicly visible to a viewer of the listing or show. We do not capture video or audio, and we do not collect private, non-public information about any individual account.

How we use data

NotDNA uses the data above to:

  • Authenticate you and keep your workspace and saved views scoped to your account
  • Generate category trends, price benchmarks, leaderboards, and (on eligible plans) suggested pricing and buyer insights
  • Deliver alerts and reports in the app and by email
  • Process your subscription and provide support

We do not sell your personal account data, and we do not use it to profile individual buyers for advertising purposes.

Data we do not collect

NotDNA does not store your full payment-card numbers (these are handled by our payment processor), government IDs, biometric data, precise location data, or health-related data. The application itself sets only short-lived session and CSRF cookies required for authentication.

How we share data

We do not sell or rent your personal account data. Limited disclosures we may make:

  • Service providers we use to run NotDNA, for example our hosting provider, database provider, payment processor (Stripe), and email provider. Each is contractually required to handle data only as needed to provide their service.
  • Legal compliance: if required by valid legal process, we will disclose the minimum data necessary and notify the affected party where legally permitted.

Data retention

Account data and activity logs are retained while your account is active, plus up to 12 months for audit and support. When you delete your account or request deletion, we remove your personal data within 30 days. We may retain aggregated, anonymized, or otherwise de-identified records derived from public Whatnot activity, such as market-level price and sales trends. These records are not linked to your account and do not identify any individual.

Your rights

You may at any time:

  • Access the data NotDNA holds about you.
  • Correct inaccurate data we hold about you.
  • Delete data we hold about you (see the next section).
  • Export your saved views and account data on request.

Data deletion

To request deletion of your data, email legal@notdna.com with the subject "NotDNA data deletion request," or delete your account from your settings. We will confirm receipt and complete deletion of your personal data within 30 days.

Requests from sellers or buyers reflected in our data

If you are a Whatnot seller or buyer and believe activity connected to you is reflected in NotDNA's market data and would like to raise a question about it, email legal@notdna.com. We take data-accuracy and privacy concerns seriously and will review each request.

Security

NotDNA transmits all data over HTTPS. Credentials are stored encrypted at rest and are never exposed to the browser in plain text.

Children's privacy

NotDNA is a business tool and is not directed to anyone under 18. We do not knowingly collect data from children.

Third-party platforms

NotDNA's market data is built from activity that is publicly visible on Whatnot. Whatnot, and the sellers and buyers who use it, are governed by Whatnot's own terms and privacy policy. NotDNA is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or operated by Whatnot or any other platform referenced in the Service. Platforms can change what is publicly visible or how it may be accessed at any time, and we adjust our data collection accordingly.

International data transfers

NotDNA is operated from California and hosted in the United States. By using the application you acknowledge that your data may be transferred to and processed in the United States. We comply with applicable data protection regulations, including the GDPR for EU-based users and the CCPA for California residents.

Changes to this policy

We may update this privacy policy as NotDNA's features evolve. The "Last updated" date at the top of the page reflects the most recent change. Material changes will be communicated to active users by email.
